STUDIO ASSIGNMENTS (Mini Portfolio): Studio Projects for the elementary classroom 2B) understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, and principles; processes of inquiry; and theories that are central to the disciplines.
Art Folder Project
Description: Create a folder out of two sheets of paper to store projects in. On the front, draw the first letter of your last name bubble-letter style, then split it up into 7 sections, and decorate each section as an element of art. At the bottom, write your name and the name of the class. On the back of the folder, draw a picture of something that represents you.
Rationale: Learned how to make a folder using the elements and principles in a way that young students will understand.
Drawing Project
Description: Created a graphite still life drawing using at least 3 different shapes as frames. Within the frames, provide 3 different perspectives of the still life. Rationale: Expressed knowledge in graphite rendering, perspective, line work and highlights. Evidence: Attached photo
Painting Project
Description: Paint your own interpretation of how COVID-19 collectively affected everyone. Rationale: Expressed knowledge of acrylic paint, such as mixing and blending, application, and the building of colors. Evidence: Attached photo
Ceramic Tile Project
Description: Created a 6x6 ceramic tile with 3 layers built up to create a scene. Rationale: Expressed knowledge of ceramics, such as slip and scoring, adding texture. and applying glaze. Evidence: Attached photo (unfired piece at the time of picture)
Book Collaboration: 2I) evaluates teaching resources and materials for appropriateness as related to curricular content and each student’s needs.
Description: Created a children's book with art team members and music team members. The music team members were in charge of the writing and research portion, and the art team was in charge of illustration. Rationale: We learned how to plan ahead for creating pages, how to work with people that aren't artists, design commission work, and how to combine art styles into one cohesive piece. Evidence: Attached pages from the book.
ELEMENTARY LESSON PLAN 2K) engages students in the processes of critical thinking and inquiry and addresses standards of evidence of the disciplines; 3B) understands how to develop short- and long-range plans, including transition plans, consistent with curriculum goals, student diversity, and learning theory; 7B) understands that assessment is a means of evaluating how students learn and what they know and are able to do in order to meet the Illinois Learning Standards.
Description: My lesson plan's main objective is this: Students will collage a 5x5 inch self-portrait mosaic on cardboard using glue, magazine cutouts, fabric scraps and buttons that reflect their personality.
Rationale: This project will help students explore the elements and principles of art through a variety of materials. It will also provide students with a way of interpreting themselves and their personalities.
PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 1 (1 submission) 7G: understands the need for continuing study, self-evaluation, and professional growth.
ARTIST CRITIQUE
Description: For this experience, I visited the University Galleries just outside of ISU's campus and observed the work of Nazafarin Lotfi, and her series titled Traces. The series included several paper-mache sculptures designed to look like body-bags or bodies decomposing or becoming one with the environment, shifting into boulders or rocks.
Rationale: I loved experiencing her work within the gallery and being able to appreciate the dynamic movement and flow throughout her sculptures.
PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 2 (1 submission) 7N: advances his or her knowledge of current developments in the field by participating in professional development activities (e.g., coursework, professional organizations, and workshops).
BOOK COLLABORATION
Description: Partnered with the music department to create a children's book about symphonies and diversity. The music team members were in charge of the writing and research portion, and the art team was in charge of illustration. When creating our book, we had clear communication goals and deadlines that we needed to work together on in order to succeed.
Rationale: I learned how to communicate within a group of creatives, some not familiar with art and techniques, and how to help organize and distribute work evenly between team members.
Evidence: I don't have the link for the book yet, but I'll link it when I do. For now, here's a page that I did from the book.
