3rd Grade Lesson Plan Description: Students created animals out of clay and glazed them. Then they created habitats for their animals out of nature materials they found outside. We took pictures of each student with their finished artwork when they were done.
Rationale: Students explored the idea of animals and their habitats, as well as how nature can be used to create artwork. Students learned about many different artists and their unique animal and nature artwork, which will ultimately help them to grow in their artistic mindset. These students now know how they can create an animal out of clay, how to glaze their creations, and how to use nature materials to make artwork.

8th Grade Lesson Plan
Description: 8th grade students created faux stained glass artwork based on something that represents them. They used colored glue as the black leading to draw their design on a piece of plexiglass, and then colored it in using acrylic paint.
Rationale: Students learned about stained glass artists during this lesson. They learned about how traditional stained glass art is created, and elements related to stained glass. They also learned how they can create their own stained glass piece/suncatcher at home. Evidence: The pictures of student artwork featured below and this link to our written lesson plan: Lesson Plan
SATURDAY CLASS CLASSROOM SET-UP DOCUMENTATION IPTS Standard 4 - Learning Environment - The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal setting. Description: For each class, we made sure all of the content in our presentations, videos, and music was school appropriate and not offensive in any way. We allowed students to sit where they wanted and they all kept to themselves. For any videos we put on, we made sure to include subtitles, and for any students that needed help reading or writing, we sat down with them and helped them.
Rationale: Students in both 3rd and 8th grade were able to follow along with our lessons, keep up with their classmates, and follow directions. There were breaks for students who needed to use the bathroom frequently, and one and one assistance during class when they needed it.
Evidence: The photos of students in our classes featured below and these links to our presentations, artist handouts, and worksheets.

Description: I watched a video about multi-media artist Karen LaMonte about her series of work entitled, Floating World. She used glass, bronze, rust, and clay for different parts of her series.
Rationale: Karen LaMonte is an artist from New York that creates artwork in a wide array of media. One series of work, titled Floating World, used many different types of materials to create empty vessels of clothing. Her work is incredibly detailed, and features a number of different types of flowing gowns, kimonos, and other clothing. The curves, creases, and folds in the fabric look real, like one might be able to reach out and grab the soft material, when in fact, the sculpture is made out of hard ceramic, glass, rust, or bronze. The ideas behind her work reflect that of the Buddhist ideas of "Mu," the "Buddhist notion of emptiness," which mean that emptiness contains the universe. Her work reflects this in the empty feminine vessels, where each body is both missing and present. Her work represents no particular women, but each and every woman that is and ever was.
Description: I watched an artist TED Talk about artist Shantell Martin. She creates large and small scale line drawings in a stylized, black and white format.
Rationale: Shantell Martin is a black and queer artist from Southeast London who grew up different from the rest of her siblings. They were all white, and she was mixed. She felt like an outsider, and began to find artwork and communities of people in Japan who were also outsiders, which made her feel at home. She began to really explore her artwork and let her pen to lead the way. She eventually moved to New York, and drew on buildings, walls, sidewalks, and her bedroom, which was featured in the New York Times. She was able to create several large scale drawings on the interior of buildings, where she created a map and abstract words of encouragement and calming. Her work was inspiring to me because she lets it lead her, and I want to be able to do that with my own artwork. I want to be able to start drawing and see where it takes me and what I can learn from it.
PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 2 (2 submissions) IPTS Standard 9 - Professionalism, Leadership, and Advocacy - The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
Description: I participated in a NAEA activity where we created some paintings to donate to a local nursing home to brighten up the residents' rooms and hopefully make them smile.
Rationale: I created 5 different paintings that anyone might be able to enjoy having in their rooms. I did this because I care about making others happy and giving them hope, and if I can do that through my artwork, I will absolutely put in that effort.
Evidence: Photos featured below.
Description: I created some rubber stamps of oranges, the moon, mushrooms and a lava lamp to create some fun designs for my sister for Christmas.
Rationale: I learned how to create these stamps in ART 309, but I created these on my own time outside of class. I wanted to create something that I could use all the time and have a variety of, which is why I chose some fun designs that you don't typically see on traditional stamps.
