1D: understands properties of two- and three-dimensional space and of the fourth dimension, time. 2D: collaborates with other arts specialists in developing inter-related artworks.
Description: Throughout this class, we explored many different digital platforms and programs that could be used in art classrooms including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Google Slides, stop motion animation applications, and Makey-Makeys with compatible websites. We also did some drawing and 3D work to accompany our digital work and expand our knowledge on how to incorporate both into the art classroom.
Rationale: After taking this course, I feel prepared to teach an introductory digital art studio course to K-12 students. I now know of many available and affordable apps and websites that can be used in lessons to teach students about the world of digital art.
Explanation: This goal for this assignment was to create a game using Microsoft Office or Google Suite tools, and explore the use of adding links to slides and objects.
Rationale: I created "Cat Game" for this assignment, which involves choosing a cat, choosing a "cat pack," and then winning or losing based on those choices. It is a simple idea that could easily be taught to younger or older students, and they would be able to have control and choice regarding the content of their games (provided it's school appropriate).
"Altered Site" and "Media Dream" Collage
Explanation: The purpose of these assignments was to explore and get more comfortable with Adobe Photoshop. "Altered Site" was taking a picture of something that already exists and altering it in some way, and "Media Dream" was making a digital collage of your own using whatever images you could find.
Rationale: I took an image of The Sphinx from Egypt and photoshopped Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's face onto it for the "altered site" assignment. I compiled a variety of objects into a photo of outer space for the "media dream" assignment.
Infographic
Explanation: Create a silly infographic using Adobe Illustrator to explore the program and it's tools.
Rationale: I created a plant infographic using shapes, text, and cropping tools in Adobe Illustrator.
Explanation: The goal for this assignment was to create a 10 second stop motion animation video using 8 frames per second. We had the freedom to choose the type of stop motion media/characters we wanted.
Rationale: I created an 18 second stop motion video using figurines and objects that I already owned. I now feel better equipped to create my own and teach others how to create a stop motion animation video.
Google Slides House Unit Plan
5B) Understands principles and techniques, along with advantages and limitations, associated with a wide range of evidence-based instructional practices; 5C) knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources; 5D) understands disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional approaches and how they relate to life and career experiences;
Description: I created this lesson plan involving the creation of simple 2D houses using the shape and line tools in Google Slides. Each student is to create at least 2 houses, each with a door, windows, and at least 3 additional features, to explore what is possible with the simplest of programs. This will be an easy introduction into digital art for students with no experience, and will hopefully make the transition to more advanced platforms, such as Illustrator, a little smoother.
Rationale: I included several artists in my lesson plan whose artworks all support the ideas of digital artmaking as well as architecture. I also included vocabulary words and critical thinking questions that support student learning and understanding of the content. I created this lesson to give students a chance to use an everyday slideshow application to instead create artwork, and to practice their digital artmaking skills.
